Twin River – “Can’t Keep This Alive”

Twin River
Twin River‘s bio notes that the Vancouver-based band is “comprised of members of Red Cedar, Sun Wizard, Capitol 6, White Ash Falls, Chains of Love, Mode Moderne, Pleasure Cruise and more.” Twin River has strains of those bands, but its stripped-down sound is more rustic and folksy than any of its associated acts.

Below is the twangy, faintly surf-tinged “Can’t Keep This Alive,” which comes from the recent Rough Gold EP. Get it from Bandcamp.

Capitol 6 – “Cold Ride”

Capitol 6
Prioritizing sucks, and sometimes I must forgo writing thoughtful blogs about deserving music in favour of doing work that actually pays the bills. So I’ll let this song by Vancouver’s Capitol 6 (led by Sun Wizard‘s Malcolm Jack) speak for itself. “Cold Ride” appears on the album Pretty Lost, due out June 12 on Light Organ Records.

I don’t know about anything

In addition to being a co-frontman of Sun Wizard, songwriter Malcolm Jack plays in a band called Capitol 6. Unlike his other outfit’s raw and upbeat take on classic guitar rock, this band favours heady, reverb-hazed psychedelia. I wrote about Capitol 6′s Captain Rehab 10″ EP for Exclaim! a while back, and you can hear the enticingly woozy cut “I Sure Can Pretend” below.

The band also has a new 7″ out in August. If you’re doing the math, that’s 17″ of wax available through Light Organ. Check out both releases over at Bandcamp. Vancouverites can catch the band live on August 17 at the Biltmore.
