Before I was a hotshot music journalist with lots of money, drugs and Samoan attorneys, I was training to become a teacher. In fact, I’m still registered as a practicing member of the BC College of Teachers. That’s Mr. Hip to you.
As well as being a stressful and ultimately unsatisfying job, Student Teacher is also a noisy guitar pop band from Vancouver. And, luckily, I enjoy this Student Teacher much more than I enjoyed being a real-life student teacher (these things always look better from afar).
The band doesn’t yet have an album, but check out this DIY recording of the fuzzy doo-wop send-up “You Just Can’t Stay.” It’s a catchy tune, with a bassy rumble that provides an ominous contrast to the campy “wah-wah-wah” backup vocals.
