Atlas Sound @ the Biltmore Cabaret, 10/30/09

Atlas Sound
Last night, Bradford Cox played an unaccompanied acoustic set at the Biltmore under his solo moniker Atlas Sound. The following quotes from Cox should give you a pretty good idea of how it went:

“I’m going to stand up, and maybe you guys can shut up.”

“You know what it’s like, playing in a concert in a grocery store…in the frozen section.”

“Am I a dick?”

“There’s been about 45 minutes of [music] that you’ve just fucking ruined.”

“This is a little awkward for me because, like I said, I’m short a band tonight. But I like making things happen.”

“Can I get less of the audience in my monitor?”

“Imagine working in a mall and being covered in fucking vomit. It seems real fucking pointless.”

“SHUT UP AUDIENCE MEMBERS IN THE BACK.”

“Your loud-ass fucking chatter is drowning me out.”

“WHY DON’T YOU COME UP HERE AND SUCK MY FUCKING DICK.”

“I don’t come to your work…I’ve been banned from 7-11.”

“Justice is coming for you, you fucking cunts.”

“Thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou….”

god that guy is annoying. i was at that show. your review is pretty dead on but you left one important thing out of your review and that’s what the audience was shouting back at him as he was telling us to shut up:
“shut the fuck up and play some music!”
“get your dick out of your mouth and play the guitar!”
“quit whining and play us some songs!”
“get off the stage! we want to hear some music!”
    “when is broadcast coming out?”
    etc.
these are all real things i heard people yelling back. no one wants to hear about how hard it is to be a performer brad. and if the audience seems to be too loud for you, then maybe PLAY LOUDER. put up of shut up brad.

it was a great show. he was perfectly justified in saying all this, because the music was beautiful but it wasn’t half as loud as the crowd.

don’t go to a music venue to talk. stay at home. idiots.

no, actually, fuck bradford cox. people pay to see him play music, not fight with the audience. and people are going to talk wherever you go. if you wanna have a quite sit down show, play at an art gallery, not a bar on the cheap side of town. cox was also being unjustifiably douchey. that guy needs to wake the fuck up. atlas sound is getting worse with every release and so is deerhunter. he’s gotta get his ego in check before his 5 minutes of internet fame are up and he realizes that no one likes him anymore because he was too much of a rockstar to be a good person.
