About this blog

Everything on this blog is written by Alex Hudson. I’m a music journalist based in Vancouver, BC. I look like this.

I write regularly for Exclaim!, The Georgia Straight and The Tyee. I’m a contributing editor for BeatRoute Magazine. My work has also appeared in Coast Mountain Culture, FFWD, Color Magazine, The Skinny, The Ubyssey, ION and Discorder. I’m a Polaris Music Prize juror and, in spring 2010, I was the Chevrolet On Scene blogger at the Telus World Ski and Snowboard Festival.

This site has been featured on the Polaris blog, CBC Radio 3, exfm, The Hype Machine Radio Show, Bandmo and Discorder. It was a long list contender for CBC Radio 3’s Searchlight competition for Canada’s best music website.

If you want to submit music, send it to alex@chippedhip.com. I get a lot of stuff and obviously I don’t have time to write about it all, but being sent music is always nice.

My interests include: Harry Potter, British period pieces, minor league baseball games, dream pop, disaster movies, hiking, vinyl, Kate Bush music videos, and Oxford commas. I partially stole the idea for this bio from Jessica Suarez. Street magicians make me uncomfortable.

This blog was designed by Mike Withers. He looks like this.

    Hi Alex.

I found you through a Redbird link on my facebook.

I thought I’d send a link to the YouTube single I released last night. In case you feel like having a listen/view.

    Hi Alex!

I’m saying hello from your hometown Vancouver and I’m so happy I stumbled across your blog!

I work for a local blog here in Vancouver, British Columbia called Fistful of Sound (fistfulofsound.com) which explores the dynamic Vancouver music scene and specializes in promoting artists and their music. I’ve just been checking out your blog and I love the indie sounds you’ve got up there.

If you haven’t heard of him before, an artist we promote called Dominique Fricot also has a great indie sound similar to artists like AC Newman and The XX recently featured on your blog. His impressionable piano, guitar hooks and haunting vocals leaving you wanting for more. He recently released a new music video for his single “Haunted by Love”: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3bVwmOnLbk

I’d love to know what you think, he really is a talented artist who’s gaining strong momentum here in not just Vancouver, but Canada. He just recently got announced as one of the top 3 finalists in the Peak Performance Project and could now win over $100 000. He’s also been involved with music therapy charity work for a company called Music Heals encouraging people to donate their old iPods to “ipod pharmacies”. More information can be found here: http://www.musicheals.ca/news-events/dominique-fricot-collects-ipods-music-heals-ipod-pharmacy

Please get in contact with me via this email to interview or feature Dominique.

Thanks so much for your time,

    Connor Roff.
